This is even better than the infamous Alan Sokal hoax, since the authors managed to get numerous publications into regular (non-pay-for-play) journals. The Dog Park paper even managed to win an award, indicating that it was read by a non-trivial number of relevant academic community members.
"We intentionally made the papers absurd and used faulty methods to see if they could pass scrutiny at the highest level of academia. Concerningly, they did," James Lindsay, one of the authors of the papers, said.
