USC Professor in trouble after sending out an email defending due process

According to the Daily Trojan, a white male professor is the subject of campus protests on account of an email that he sent to his faculty's mailing list. Moore had been responding to an email thread concerning sexual assault and Title IX. According to the Trojan:

If the day comes you are accused of some crime or tort of which you are not guilty, and you find your peers automatically believing your accuser, I expect you find yourself a stronger proponent of due process protections than you are now,” Moore wrote on Thursday. “Accusers sometimes lie.”

In response:
  • Moore was called a 'pitiful excuse' for a professor
  • His department head stated that the comments were "insensitive and incendiary"
  • Student activists called for him to be fired.
One activist stated that his email "broke her". Another stated that "Rape enablers, like Professor Moore, must be held accountable for their actions.”

A campus protest then followed. The hapless department head stated:

“We want people to participate in a responsible way … in a way that respects others and doesn’t, in this case, throw something out like this that can cause a tremendous amount of injury.”

It is not clear that Moore intended to offend anyone. It is also not clear that his comments are in any way unreasonable.

What is, however, patently clear is that US University campuses have become incredibly fragile and hostile to anything apart from left-liberal orthodoxy. One would expect that Universities would encourage vigorous debate on topics of importance.

Instead, left wing activists refrain from debate. Looking at the evidence above, they rely on 'feelings' and ad hominems. If an email containing a different opinion can 'break you', it shows that you aren't mentally healthy enough to be in an environment where differences of opinions are to be encouraged.
