According to an immigration law firm, Canada is boosting immigration heavily in the next few years. Not content with the highest levels of immigration in Canadian history, the government is going to increase immigration by about 10% in the upcoming year, not counting an uptick in temporary foreign workers (TFWs) or student visa holders.
There is, it must be said, no popular support for this. The impacts of mass immigration on the environment, housing markets, crime, or Canadian culture are never considered.
If the Bernie Farbers of the world wonder why immigration is such a hot topic in the west, they might consider that immigration policy has been precisely the opposite of public opinion in all western countries. The British were protesting third world immigration back in 1950, when Churchill was moved to do something about it but was blocked by his cabinet.
Immigration is forever. It changes societies permanently. It is not akin to implementing a new form of voting, a new style of welfare spending, etc. The effects of immigration can never be undone.
